When I completed college and started to work, I felt so intimidated by the responsibilities of my first job. Although I made good progress in my career and later landed a management role, I just never seemed to let go of that feeling inside that limited me.
Like many women in leadership roles, I encountered numerous challenges along the way such as
- Continuously being underestimated
- Facing bias and stereotypes
- Having to work twice as hard to prove myself
Can you relate to any of those?
But instead of letting these obstacles discourage me, I used them as fuel to drive me forward.
I refused to accept the status quo and I pushed boundaries —both within myself and within the organizations I worked for.
What I ultimately learned is that what limits you is not external; it is not anybody or anything outside you. It is you, all you! Let’s talk about this.

You Can Stop Limiting Yourself and Lead More Powerfully
Hello Women Leaders!
It wasn’t always easy for me to find the courage and resilience to overcome barriers, but I surrounded myself with a supportive network of mentors, colleagues, and friends whose encouragement gave me the strength to persist, even when the odds seemed stacked against me.
I also recognized the importance of self-belief and cultivating a growth mindset.
A pivotal moment for me was when I realized that if I could limit myself
I could turn it around and un-limit myself!
Unlimit is not a verb that that you will find in a dictionary and even my spellcheck doesn’t recognise it as a word. But I made it a word for me and I hope that you will too.
3 Ways to Shift Limitations You Place on Yourself
#1 Change your self-talk.
Replace negative words you say to yourself with positive words. “I’m terrified” becomes “I’m a little uncomfortable”
“I can’t do this” becomes “I can deal with this.”
You see, your mind takes everything you say as literal and accurate.
#2 Practice gratitude.
Create a gratitude journal where you write down 3 things every day that you are grateful for.
It has been proven that people who regularly practice gratitude may be better equipped to handle life’s challenges and bounce back from setbacks.
#3 Detach yourself from critics. The only way to deal with critical people (even your boss) is not to take it personally and just say to yourself: “This is not really about me, it’s about you.”
